Açaí (pronounced ah-sigh-EE), a palm berry from the rainforests of Brazil, comes with an impressive résumé: about three ounces contains plenty of vitamin C, vitamin A, omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids, and is high in antioxidants. It is harvested by local workers and helps sustain the rainforest. The indigo-purple fruit has the flavor of blueberries with a slightly tannic aftertaste that suggests bitter chocolate. Clark Clark, an owner of Bar Marché in NoLIta, makes a deliciously tart-sweet prosecco cocktail called the açaí mimosa with the purée, and also makes an açaí caipirinha ($10 each). The purée is also becoming popular in smoothies. Amazon Thunder currently sells the purest form of Acai available in its 32 oz. bottles, capsules and freeze dried powder products!
