Current advertising touts pomegranates as an "antioxidant superpower," but nutritionist Susan Fyshe said it is hard to quantify one fruit's antioxidant benefits against another, or its effect on damaging free radicals. Move over pomegranate! Açai blows you out of the water!
Fyshe said new antioxidants, such as açai, are being discovered all the time, and instead of paying the premium price for the popular pomegranate, consumers should probably just ingest a variety of rich-colored fruits and vegetables as they come into season. Dark chocolate, nuts, seeds and whole grains are also good sources of antioxidants. Sure, açai is more expensive than most other forms of fruits but, you get what you pay for!
